The Academy of Martial Arts
Idaho Falls, ID

Established 1994
For almost 20 years, The Academy of Martial Arts has been offering self-defense instruction to men, women and children in the Idaho Falls area. As a proud member of the Pedro Sauer Jiu-Jitsu Association and Shijian Kenpo Federation, The Academy continues to offer top-notch, professional training in all aspects of self-defense including striking, grappling, and takedowns.

Mission and Vision
When taught correctly, the martial arts are a way of helping improve the lives of the students one teaches. Teaching fighting techniques, without teaching the character traits that should accompany martial art skills, can be counter-productive and even dangerous. At The Academy, our mission is to improve the lives of our students by giving them the most effective self defense training available as well as the character traits that go along with that.

As soon as you walk into The Academy, you will see three pillars. Each pillar has a phrase written in kanji. To the left is the phrase Shi-jian, which means to be realistic, or to make effective. On the right is Jiu-Jitsu, or the art of gentleness. On the center pillar, the phrase meiyo (honor) is written. As the center pillar, this one is the most important, and the principal on which everything else is built. It reminds us that strength comes not through inflicting harm on others, but through the principles that we live by. Who we are will always be more important than who we can beat.
